Mummer Costume

This set of objects – one newspaper clipping, a Polaroid photograph and two graphite and pastel drawings on paper- document the costume titled Winter Fantasy ’75. The costume was designed and worn by mummer William Morrison for the traditional New Year’s Parade in January 1975 in Philadelphia. The low-quality paper used for the sketches and the newspaper were in delicate condition. Treatment was performed to eliminate grime and acidic products, recover flexibility and improve lecture of the objects. An archival quality mounting system was chosen to allow framing and lengthen the material life of the objects through time. The man who hired me to treat this set surprised his wife on Christmas with it, beautifully framed. His wife is Morrison’s daughter.
